Today I Met Crazzy Dave, Ottawa’s Homeless Poet

Crazzy Dave Byward Ottawa Homeless PoetThose of you who spend a lot of time in the Byward Market, downtown Ottawa, might recognize this man. His name is Dave, though most people know him by his pen name ‘Crazzy Dave’ or simply ‘that homeless poet guy.’

Like many people, I have walked past Dave many times without stopping to say hello or taking a moment to read one of his poems. Today, I decided to stop and spend a bit of time with Dave – partly to see if he really was ‘crazzy’ and partly because I should have stopped the first time I saw him a couple of years ago.

I don’t want to tell Dave’s story here. If you’re curious about Dave, please go visit him and strike up a conversation. I assure you he would be very pleased to spend some time with you. He spends most of each weekend behind Chapters on George Street by Sussex Drive.

I  also want to share a few of his poems, which he sells for $2 each, but I encourage you to please pay very generously.
